Prototyping an app? Every. Single. One.

Before the beginning

I began my Canva💕 love story when it wasn’t live yet. I used powerpoint for EVERYTHING.

Remember when you were little and you would try to draw figurines with the shaped in Word? I was doing the same but in powerpoint.

My love for powerpoint grew, I started putting my essays in powerpoint. I made all my book covers in power point. I created geometrical art using the table function.

The first encounter

And I entered university, and somehow ended up in a marketing position in a student society. And there it was.

So it began with a basic facebook post, a couple of colored dots and a caption. Which grew to flyers and posters for our future events. It was my new powerpoint, but for graphic design.

The resume

I started looking for jobs. I needed a resume that wasn’t just black and white. It had to have as much fair and vibrancy as I did.

Maybe I would use Canva instead of word…

Canva had some beautiful circuitry lines and electrical symbols. So I created a background which looked like a circuit board.

The resume had as much vibrancy as I did, and it got me my first job. Tutoring!

Tutoring

Negatives & Multiplication Cards in Canva

I always loved going above and beyond for tutoring. I created flashcards & presentations capturing my notes for the lesson. I knew my students would remember it better if I used color and simple visual connections.

Linkedin

Now that I had a job, I wanted to up my LinkedIn game. So I decided to make my own LinkedIn banner on Canva too.

The next role I took one was a team leader role, which required me to give a presentation on how to be the best tutor you can be. I created all my slides on Canva. When I had to show the slides to my CEO, I could easily share it with him and he could tweak my design as we went along.

Canva also has some really great graphs which you can add real data into and add to your presentations. While I haven’t needed to use this feature yet, it makes me happy to know I have the option when I get around to it.

Web Prototyping

When I started learning web development — I had no idea on how to prototype a website. So naturally, I turned to Canva. Which allowed me to easily duplicate pages, keep colors and components all in one presentation. Because it was easily accessible by a URL, I could also share and present it wherever I needed to.

It’s safe to say my love for Canva is still strong and will be for a long time to come. All my banners and media for Medium are currently all generated on Canva. I’m grateful for Canva because it makes color, design & presentation easy, for everything.

And finally, let’s not forget my first academic seminar. Canva templates made an easy and impactful design that elevated my presentation — just because it was fun and refreshing. Check out the post about my seminar design here.

What kind of cool things have you made with Canva? Or maybe you’re a newbie, I’d love to know!
